The new season of the Premier League is still some way ahead of us. As for the fixtures, they are officially to be revealed on Thursday evening. But, a leaked photo seems to offer a glimpse into the opening day matches.
The first match of the season has UCL finalists, Tottenham Hotspur, take on Norwich City. The newly-promoted side returns to the Premier League as winners of the 2019 Championship title.
Elsewhere, Championship escapees, Bournemouth, take on another newly-promoted side, Sheffield United. It’s the first time the Blades have played in the EPL for 12 years.
Aston Villa is also back in the Premier League, albeit a year later than fans would have expected. They play Leicester City at home.
Tough first test for the Manchester clubs?
Manchester United are frantically looking to improve their squad for next season. The first inkling of their success may come in the first week of the EPL as they meet Brighton, one of the league’s better teams.
Champions League winners Liverpool travel to Burnley. The leaked photo suggests that Chelsea will visit Southampton, while Arsenal takes on Crystal Palace.
Everton meets Newcastle in one of the most interesting, albeit rumoured, fixtures of the first day. Everton’s mid-table finish last season seems to suggest that the club finally has a clear vision for the immediate future. Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle, equipped with a better transfer budget at the disposal, looks to aim big, potentially at a top 5 finish.
Last year’s winners, Manchester City, end the first round with a tough game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. There are a lot of expectations of what Wolves could achieve this season after in their first campaign they managed 7th place finish.
