Current Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has won his share of awards with Italy’s Juventus. In spite of this, he says that winning the Premier League would be the greatest achievement of his career.

Antonio Conte arrived in the Premier League in the search of a new challenge. The young manager had previously won the title in Italy on three consecutive occasions with Juventus. This was a period of resurgence for the Italian giants . Conte was also given the job of coach for the Italian national squad. The team reached the  quarter-finals of Euro 2016 .

Despite his impressive achievements in a relatively short management career, Conte says his greatest moment is yet to come.  “Yes, for sure it would be my greatest achievement,” said Conte. “To win the title in England is a great achievement – for the coach, the players and the club.”

“Now, to win the title in England is a great achievement. A top achievement for the coach, the players and the club. To win in England these days is not easy. To win this league is difficult, so we must be proud in our work. We must know that, now, it’s a good season. It will remain a good season. But we want it to become a great season, a fantastic season. To become a great or fantastic season there is only one way: to win [the title]. This is a crucial week for us.”

Chelsea are in the running to win the double. Their recent 4-2 victory over Tottenham earned the team a place in the F.A. Cup final against Arsenal. Chelsea is also battling Tottenham in the Premier League. An initial 10 point advantage over their London rivals has decreased in recent weeks. Chelsea play Southampton today knowing a victory is vital for their title chances.

The season began with many high profile transfers to the English league. Some of the most important managers also arrived in the Premier League. With the Manchester teams and Arsenal battling for a fourth place finish, Conte believes this is a sign that a large budget for transfers does not equal success. “I think, this season, it’s very important to understand it’s not always about who spends the most money,” Conte told reporters.

“This season isn’t the only season the Manchester clubs have spent a lot of money. It’s normal. It’s right for them to do this, to reinforce their teams, if they think this is the right way to win the title. You’ve seen the past – every season, they spend a lot of money.”

“If you have to spend money, try to spend that money in the right way to take players with the right characteristics for your idea of football.  But, for us, this season is very important because we are trying to build something for the present, to put down the foundations, and be stronger for the future. To become a real power in the future.”
