“Are we going to be Spain in 8 months? No, we’re not,” admits England manager Gareth Southgate. England has qualified for the World Cup tournament in Russia for next year, but some England fans are still complaining about the team’s performance.
The qualification should be a cause for celebration, but it leaves English fans wondering about the team’s chances to perform good enough when the team arrives in Russia next year. England has after all failed to meet expectations on more than one occasion when participating in Euro and World Cup tournaments.
Southgate says the difference between teams like his and that of Spain, for example, is that the Spanish side has plenty of players who are used to winning important trophies, something that few English players can boast to have managed. The coach, however, says that the team can be proud of themselves and maximize the abilities that they have. The Englishman is happy to help England back to the most important football stage.
