The Premier League 2020/21 season is approaching its conclusion. Since the campaign has reserved its fair share of surprises, we thought we’d talk about the most underrated EPL players in FootballCoin this season. Here’s who did best and why you might need them on your fantasy football draft.

James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)

Southampton has had an up and down season, unlike James Ward-Prowse whose form has been as consistent as a Swiss clock. A free-kick specialist with a clever touch, the midfielder has been vital for the Saints, and this could also help him land a spot in England’s national team squad for the European tournament.

Aaron Cresswell (West Ham United)

West Ham United has been one of the most surprising teams in recent Premier League history. The Hammers are eyeing a historic Top 4 finish. Cresswell, like his colleagues, has distinguished himself as a resilient, no-nonsense player. Capable of tremendous self-sacrifice and the occasional glimmers of great skill, the Englishman is one of the best defenders of the season in EPL.

Luke Ayling (Leeds United)

Leeds was always bound to have players on this list. In many ways, Ayling is the prototypical Marcelo Bielsa player. Prior to the Argentine’s appointment, the defender was strictly a Championship player. Tasked with performing at the highest level this season, Ayling has shown to be a player that comes alive, especially, against the league’s best. He’s one of the season’s top players and another candidate for Gareth Southgate’s national team.

Jan Bednarek (Southampton)

The Saints have only themselves to blame for not occupying a place among the EPL’s best. They have certainly had the players capable of achieving this. Most interestingly though, these footballers have, most often been, unsung, underrated here as has been the case with Jan Bednarek. The Polish defender is a master at winning back possession and recycling it successfully to his teammates. His total points tally in FootballCoin isn’t too shabby either.

Illan Meslier (Leeds United)

Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival at Leeds generated an immense amount of hype around the club. It was warranted as the Peacocks managed to earn a historic promotion back to the Premier League. Transfers were few and far between. Illan Meslier was brought in on a loan from lowly Ligue 1 side Lorient. His performances have often been inspired. Anyone that has followed Leeds across the season will know that he has had his work cut out for him. Leeds is not a team to prioritize defense. Meslier is a better candidate for the Golden Gloves trophy than many of the league’s most famous players.
