play fantasy football champions league playoff second leg who to pick

By Eduard Bănulescu

There was plenty of drama in the UCL last week, and not just if you happened to be a fan of Juventus or Inter. Did the on-field performances affect your fantasy football Champions League team’s results?

This week, let’s take no chances! Let’s focus on the natural winners and start getting your team some points.

These are players that you need for your team ahead of the UCL playoffs second-leg. I’ll throw in a few of the ones you should avoid, too.

These Are the Players You Need for the Champions League Fantasy Football Play-Off!

First of all, note that the free UCL contest in FootballCoin includes both the Tuesday and Wednesday games. Now, let’s see what each offers.

Tuesday UCL Games

Cheat Sheet: Goalkeepers

Player Name Club
Thibaut Courtois Real Madrid
Nikita Haikin Bodo/Glimt
Philipp Kohn As Monaco
Konstantinos Tzolakis Olympiacos
Jan Oblak Atletico Madrid

There’s something of the wounded beast about Atletico Madrid this season. As I predicted, Club Brugge was a strong opponent for Diego Simeone‘s players last week. But now comes the pressure of playing at the Metropolitano Stadium

As things stand, I see Oblak as a vital part of your team if you can afford his card. Not convinced yet by Alvarez or Sorloth, but think that Pubill is the best affordable option for your fantasy football team.

Ruggeri and Hanko are fine. Meanwhile, and on the chapter of affordable cards, Mechele, Vanaken, and Stankovic have been impressive. And while there are better options, taking a chance on Tzolis in attack, I think, makes a lot of sense.

Can Bodo/Glimt secure qualification against Inter in Milano? Probably not! But last week’s score means that there’ll be plenty of goal action from early on.

This means that, like Cristian Chivu, you could take a chance on Thuram and EspositoBarellaCalhanogluand Mkhitaryan are fine, even though their performances might’ve broken your heart last week. Dimarco is a must-have.

Meanwhile, Bodo’s goalie Haikin always deserves your attention. Gundersen, Hogh, and Hauge could be alright picks if you need to round up your team. Do I think that they’ll perform as well as they did in Norway? History’s working against me, saying “no.”

Cheat Sheet: Defenders

Player Name Club
Abdülkerim Bardakcı Galatasaray
Davide Zappacosta Atalanta
Davinson Sanchez Galatasaray
Federico Dimarco Internazionale
Thilo Kehrer AS Monaco

Newcastle vs. Qarabag is a foregone conclusion. I urged you to pick a lot of English players in your team last week. But I think that tiredness and squad rotation mean you should be careful this time. Tonali, Barnes and Joelinton could play, but will they do it for the whole 90s minuntes? (Time spent on the pitch is an important factor in the scoring system in FootballCoin).

I was nearly right about Greece’s Olympiacos last week. And I’m doubling down. Goalie Tzolakis is a strong pick. Taremi, Podence and El Kaabi can be involved in the goals that help the team qualify over the always unpredictable Bayer.

Wednesday UCL Games

Typically, Atalanta goes down swinging. Having to make up a 2-0 deficit against Dortmund should mean Krstovic and Zalewski create goal-scoring chances. If they do, wing-backs Zappacosta and Bellanova will be the ones helping that happen. Good picks!

Cheat Sheet: Midfielders

Player Name Club
Vitinha PSG
Noa Lang Galatasaray
Joao Neves PSG
Caio Henrique AS Monaco
Sandro Tonali Newcastle

Meanwhile, Juventus will be desperate to wash away some of the embarrassment of the defeat back in Istanbul. This means that Locatelli, Thuram, and Yildiz will see a lot of the ball. But it also means that Galatasaray will be able to exploit those spaces.

Icardi will likely play in place of Osimhen and can be a threat. I like Lang, Torreira for this one. And I especially like central defenders Bardakci and Sanchez.

Paris Saint-Germain playing AS Monaco should keep us on the edge of our seats if last week is any indication. Doue is one of the best fantasy football picks you can make this week. Vitinha and Neves are great if you can afford them.

Meanwhile, I like goalkeeper Kohn for this one, as well as defenders Kehrer and Henrique, and midfielders Adingra and Henrique. Even Balogun deserves a shout if you find yourself in a bit of a bind.

Player Name Club
Marcus Thuram Internazionale
Christos Tzolis Club Brugge
Sebastiano Esposito Internazionale
Folarin Balogun AS Monaco
Kylian Mbappe PSG

One game that is unlikely to provide as much on-field excitement, sadly, is Real Madrid playing Benfica. There will be plenty of tension, sure. But who will rise above it? I think that Valverde and Camavinga are safe bets, along with Otamendi and Schjelderup. The more famous strikers are unpredictable.

Courtois is a great goalie pick in this one as the Portuguese will attack from the start. However, can’t see Benfica getting back into this one.

UCL Players to Avoid in Fantasy Football

Atleti’s Alvarez and Sorloth are excellent players. But both are on terrible runs of form. The team needs to score, but I’m not confident in their individual abilities.

L. Martinez would be a fine addition. However, the Argentine captain of Internazionale is likely kissing through injury.

Vinicius Jr. and Mbappe could come out swinging against Benfica. However, it’s just as likely that Real will see out its small goal advantage and involve the attackers little. This remains to be seen!
