There was plenty to work with for the best strikers in the Premier League in 2023. It was a vintage year for attacking opportunities, shots on target, and, of course, goals. It means that, at the end of the year, we have plenty of players from which to choose.
But what is a striker in 2023? Of course, the definition is a loose one. In terms of goals, the different between an attacking midfielder and an advanced forward can be extremely narrow nowadays.

Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth)
When you play as a striker for Bournemouth, you don’t typically get many opportunities to trouble the opposition’s goalkeeper. This makes Dominic Solanke’s 12-goal record this season particularly impressive. The Englishman had netted six times during the last campaign. The ability that many recognized in the player is finally proving itself beyond doubt.
Jarrod Bowen (West Ham)
David Moyes’ West Ham may not be a team that practices exciting football. However, they are getting results despite numerous pundits erroneously making the prognosis that the Hammers would be one of the poorest teams in the EPL.
West Ham players know their duty well in Moyes’ system. This has allowed Jarrod Bowen, to have one of his best years in England, registering some of the best attacking stats of any player.
Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest)
Chris Wood appeared to represent an ancient style of football. Wood was a striker that seemed to be out of style. Well, in 2023, the robust number nine was back in vogue. And, in spite of receiving much less coverage than some of the other EPL strikers, Chris Wood has been among the very best.
This season, the Nottingham Forest attacker rivals Erling Haaland for goals/90 minutes (0.97), and goals/shot (0.39) and is proving to be exactly what his club needs in their bid to avoid relegation.
Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest)
Nottingham Forest has not one, but two excellent strikers of a similar type helping them keep afloat in 2023. Taiwo Awoniyi’s transfer was a major coup back in 2022, with the club willing to break their transfer record to bring him from the Bundesliga to the EPL.
The Nigerian has delivered just what you’d expect. Put the ball in the six-yard box and he’ll be a real threat. Make him press defenders and he will do it relentlessly.
Evan Ferguson (Brighton)
Evan Ferguson has received a colossal amount of hype in 2023. This kind of attention has negatively impacted many careers. But the young Irishman looks to be doing fine at the moment.
He has managed six goals this season. He is a starting player for Brighton, one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League and is reportedly a transfer target for Manchester United, a team desperately in need of a resilient striker. Evan Ferguson is one of the most promising young players in the Premier League. 
Son-Heung min (Tottenham)
Like Mohamed Salah, Son-Heung min is not an all-out striker. But just like his Liverpudlian rival, the South Korean’s Premier League career is a story of tremendous consistency and an incredible ability to help elevate his club.
Son-Heung min has picked up the slack this season for Harry Kane’s departure, scoring 11 goals and providing 4 assists. And while last season he only netted 10, which accounts for where he is paled on our list, winning the Premier League Golden Boot the year before still lingers in the mind of Spurs fans.
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)
Aston Villa is the surprise package for the 2023/24 season. Unai Emery‘s team have emerged as a surprising title challenger and has often made more prestigious clubs look silly when playing against them.
Ollie Watkins has been one of the principal beneficiaries of Emery’s tactics. The 27-year-old is having the best season of his career. he has scored nine goals this season, assisted six, and is playing like one of the best strikers in the world at this moment. Let’s not forget he managed 15 goals during the 2022/23 season. Teams will find it hard to find ways to shake Watkins’ confidence. 
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
Mohamed Salah is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best players in Premier League history. It’s his tremendous consistency in front of goal that makes him a tremendous asset for his club. And, even though we can debate whether Liverpool’s formation, might not easily allow us to classify Salah as an all-out striker, his record forces us to include him.
Salah has 12 goals and 7 assists to his name this season, and he scored 19 during the last campaign. The Egyptian’s ability is simply a marvel.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
Erling Haaland is the best striker in the Premier League in 2023, and, for once, there can be little doubt about awarding him this title. It’s not only because Haaland beat a historic record, becoming the player to score more goals than any other player in a single season. It’s not the fact that he did in only his first EPL campaign, or the fact that he’s the fastest player to score 50 goals in the competition, or even the fact that he’s only 23 years old.
The most impressive detail is that Erling Haaland immediately made himself indispensable to what was already one of the best teams in history. Manchester City need Haaland as a striker if they are to continue to dominate the competition. And, with things as they stand right now, Haaland is cruising toward a new Golden Boot trophy at the end of the 2023/204 season.
