Cristiano Ronaldo became the all-time best goalscorer in the top European Leagues. Real manager Zinedine Zidane praised the player’s excellent form.
Cristiano Ronaldo stepped into the history books by breaking another long-time held record. Ronaldo became the player with the highest number of striker, 367 goals, in the top five European leagues. It was a record previously held by former England international Jimmy Greaves.
The 32-year-old scored a brace in Real’s 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo. The Madrid side are in first place in La Liga. If they do not lose their last game against Malaga, Real wins the league title.
Ronaldo has been in great form for Real. He has contributed 13 goals in the team’s last 8 games. His goals have been vital to what is likely to turn out to be a very succesful season for Real. The Madrid giants are also qualified for the Champions League final, which they will play against Italian champions Juventus.
Zinedine Zidane had this to say about Ronaldo’s top-notch performances. “He’s feeling great and he’s shown it again here. He has put in a massive shift and worked really hard defensively too,” he said.
“You can tell from the way he’s playing that he’s in very good nick. For a long time now we’ve been saying that the team is in good shape physically and today they’ve proved that.”
The feeling is mutual with Ronaldo complimenting his manager’s record this season. “The boss has managed things very well this year,” Ronaldo says. “We have a very good squad with lots of good young players and others with experience.”
With only one game left in the campaign in La Liga, Zidane urges that his players remain concentrated on their objective. Rivals Barcelona are three points behind and eager to seize on a misstep from Real.
“There’s still one game to go and we have to get something out of it. We must continue on in the same vein because the title race isn’t over just yet,” Real’s manager said.
“It was important for us to win and we’re really pleased with the three points. It all comes down to the final game and it’ll be tough, just like tonight’s game.”
