There can’t be much doubt over the fact that this has been the worst year in FC Barcelona’s otherwise illustrious history. Memphis Depay, Barcelona’s only top player in La Liga
Memphis Depay arrived this season at FC Barcelona, finally. It had been many months of speculation over this future with Olympique Lyon. When he did sign for Barca, some fans voiced their concern. After all, Depay had not been able to fulfil his potential at Manchester United, a club of similar stature to the Catalans.
However, as it stands, Depay is the only FC Barcelona player to have scored enough points in FootballCoin’s fantasy football stats to warrant a place among La Liga’s Top 10. The Netherlands’ forward is, in fact, third in the standings that have Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Elche’s Johan Mojica leading the pack.
In an otherwise poor season, Depay has been one of the only rays of hope for the Blaugrana supporters. He has scored three goals and provided an assist. His overall performances, however, have been strong. Without these, most likely, Barcelona would be even lower down the standings. They are currently in 9th place.
Sergino Dest, a player FC Barcelona need to keep
Sergino Dest arrived at Camp Nou as a promising youngster seeking to make his name for a top club. Little could he have known about what the future had in store. With Barcelona facing a financial meltdown, numerous playing opportunities have been offered to the team’s existing squad of players.
This has meant that the U.S.A. international has played virtually every game for Barcelona. Dest is making a name for himself as a terrific, modern wing-back. His capacity to deliver great passes under pressure, to make quick runs in the opposition’s defense, and to provide excellent crosses, make Dest an invaluable member of Barcelona’s squad. It remains to be seen if, given the club’s current financial strain, Depay and Dest will remain at the Camp Nou for much longer.
