My GW9 Fantasy Squad Reveal

Goalkeeper

Unai Simon (Athletic Bilbao) – 4* in FootballCoin – Has had a fantastic season so far. I don’t see Valencia doing more than troubling him with a few saves in this week’s fixtures.

Defenders

Hector Fort (Real Sociedad) – 2* and free w/ lease in FootballCoin – Sociedad’s occasionally looked very impressive. I think that their defence should hold up and also have a lot of the ball against Malaga.

Jesus Areso (Athletic Bilbao) – 2* and free w/ lease in FootballCoin – Bilbao’s got the best defence in La Liga this season. Areso is an affordable choice, but one that, I think, has already been proven to work.

Victor Chust (Elche) – 2* and free w/ lease in FootballCoin – He’s not a star. But he has been a really consistent performer. I see him doing well against mid-table stuck Villarreal.

Adria Pedrosa (Rayo Vallecano) – 3* in FootballCoin – The wing-back is in good form. He’s managed an assist and a goal in his last two La Liga games. That form, I think, could extend further.

Midfielders

Johnny Cardoso (Atletico Madrid) – 2* and free w/ lease in FootballCoin – I am impressed by this Atleti side even though not all the elements have lined up perfectly. Cardoso is likely to star in GW 9. This is a very competitive squad to break into. The American will know he needs to take his opportunity.

Matteo Prati (Racing Santander) – 2* and free w/ lease in FootballCoin – I think that Prati is underrated in fantasy football. I think that his last performance against Valencia was a colossal improvement over the early season. And I think that there will be more of this in next week’s fixtures against Osasuna.

Rodri (FC Barcelona) – 5* in FootballCoin – The “Rodri Effect” is real. FC Barcelona are now benefiting from it. Characteristically, the defensive midfielder is doing it all in his own quiet, understated way. Is it worth digging into your budget to get him? I think so!

Isco (Real Betis) – 5* in FootballCoin – Isco is playing against FC Barcelona. Isn’t this the game where he would most like to shine? Hasn’t he had a great string of seasons for Betis? I think that it’s worth taking a risk on the player this time.

Forwards

Vicente Inigo (Racing Santander) – 2* and free w/ lease in FootballCoin – Santander is one of the best attacking teams in the highly competitive La Liga. Is Inigo a household name? No, and that’s precisely why picking him can help your score and your budget.

Yan Diomande (Real Madrid) – 2* and free w/ lease in FootballCoin – Will he set the world on fire in his first season? It’s hard to tell. What is certain is that Diomande is creative, fit and doesn’t seem bothered by the noise of being a Madridista. Against Sevilla, he can do very well.

3 Must-Have “Sleeper Picks” for GW9

  • Orri Oskarsson (Striker Hungry for Goals) – Sociedad should do well against Sociedad. That is the expected outcome and the reason why I assume Oskarsson will get a starring role here and will know how to use this opportunity
  • Federico Valverde (Swiss Army Knife Midfielder) – Play Valverde anywhere, and he’s great. Jose Mourinho has realised what all other previous Real Madrid managers already knew. Sure, there are more affordable options in fantasy football. But can you really afford to leave out a team that features the Uruguayan?
  • Gabriel Jesus (Striker Looking for a Comeback) – You may have forgotten about Gabriel Jesus. That’s fine. Yes, he’s been flying under the radar for a while. But last week he shone for Barcelona. And he looks ready to take every opportunity Hansi Flick gives him at this stage.
