Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino insists that there is no reason why Harry Kane would be interested in leaving the club, especially since he is a central figure in Spurs’ future plans.
Harry Kane’s reputation as a top striker is on the rise. In recent seasons his stats have simply been great. He is likely to once again become the Premier League’s highest goalscorer. He has currently scored 26 times. He is in the select company of only four other players who have scored more than 25 goals in back to back seasons. The other names on the list are Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Robbie Fowler and Robin van Persie.
Naturally his performances have attracted the interest of other important clubs, including some from the Premier League. Spurs is seen as a team outperforming expectations. Pochettino says their second place finish is certainly no accident. The team is planning for the future and attempting to build a reputation as one of England’s top teams. With that in mind, the manager believes there is no reason why the striker would want to leave the club.
“It’s fantastic for him. It’s a season where again he fights for to be the top scorer in the Premier League,” Pochettino told Sky Sports. “What can we say about him? He’s one of the best strikers in the world.“
“Now he has to keep going and try to finish in the best way and look forward to next season. It’s very clear. I think I told you many times that we will keep the players we want to keep and maybe sell the players that we want to sell.
Tottenham has been in recent years a team feeding talented players to other important teams. The most notable incident is that of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric joining Champions League holders Real Madrid. While admitting such a scenario is not entirely out of the question presently, Pochettino is confident the club can keep it’s best players.
“Like always, every season, every summer, it’s possible. But we are so, so, so, so calm about our key players and they are very happy here. We’re building a very exciting project. There’s no reason for players like Harry to leave the club.”
“The team has worked so hard in the last three seasons to settle on principles and play how we play. We have to improve the squad again and try next season and the season after to not only keep the performance but to win some trophies. This group deserves to win something, ” Pochettino says.
