Serie A is known for nurturing some of the most highly promising players in the world. Each year, great young players enter the global football arena through the Italian stage. Just who are the best young players in Serie A in 2023?

We’ve tried narrowing down our list based on potential, reputation, and overall hype surrounding their arrival.

These are some of the Serie A players to watch in 2023 who could help improve your fantasy football ranking.

Samuel Iling-Junior (Juventus)

The English winger is a graduate of Juventus’ academy. Iling-Junior made his debut in style this season with a couple of excellent assists.

After a stellar performance in the Champions League against Benfica and on league duty at Lecce, the 19-year-old signed a contract extension through 2025.

The teenager is versatile, quick, and skillful on the ball. He is part of an impressive youth movement that includes Fabio Miretti and Nicolo Fagioli at the Bianconeri.

Ivan Ilic (Hellas Verona)

Ivan Ilic is a Serbian central midfielder who plays for Hellas Verona. The 21-year-old’s excellent ball control and competitiveness have landed him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Furthermore, Ilic can play as a defensive ball-winning midfielder when needed. Ilic has been compared to fellow national Sergej Milinkovic–Savic of Lazio on more than a few occasions.

Rival clubs like Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Napoli are currently following Ilic. These would not be the first big-name clubs that he has played for, having moved in 2021 to Italy from Manchester City.

Marco Carnesecchi (Cremonese)

It doesn’t look like it will be long before the 22-year-old goalkeeper finally receives a call-up to Italy’s senior squad. So far, he has represented Squadra Azzurra at every youth level.

Carnesecchi is on-loan from Atalanta. The shot-stopper has been a tremendous help to a Grigiorossi team struggling to avoid relegation from Serie A.

His most memorable performance so far came last November when he helped Cremonese hold AC Milan to a 0-0 draw. The future indeed looks bright for the young player.

Felix Afena-Gyan (Cremonese)

Felix Afena Gyan is a Ghanaian striker signed by AS Roma. Since 2022, he has been loaned out to Cremonese. Here, the 20-year-old is gaining some much-needed experience.

The forward has already managed a couple of goals in Serie A games. He’s also scored for Ghana in the FIFA World Cup qualifications. Although he has much to learn before reaching the level of his Roma teammate Tammy Abraham, Afena-Gyan has immense potential.

Jose Mourinho has already lauded the player, even gifting the player a pair of expensive sneakers as a reward for his fine performance. It appears that one of the manager’s long-term goals is to develop Afena Gyan into a world-class striker.

Josh Doig (Hellas Verona)

A superbly placed volley confirmed the seamless transition of the left-sided Scot to Italian football against Udinese back in October. In fact, Doig has two goals and three assists to his name this season.

The 20-year-old ex-Hibs player has made a mark at the Gialloblu, and the former Hibs player has been scouted by many clubs. Furthermore, the defender is currently available as a 1* player in FootballCoin.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli)

Let’s also add future superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to the list. The Georgian left-winger has been, perhaps, the best player in Serie A during the last season.

This extraordinary player was certainly the best non-free agent signing this season in world football. He helped elevate Napoli, which was already a strong team, toward what likely looks to be their first Scudetto in more than three decades.

Kvaratskhelia is the perfect winger for Luciano Spalletti. He is a relentless runner, always bringing the ball to the final third and then taking on defender after defender to create his shot or teammate.

He’s a player with Real Madrid-like potential that was virtually unknown for years until this season.

The winger is available in FootballCoin as a 2* player. He has already managed over 500 points this season. There aren’t many better choices that you could make. Kvaratskhelia is one of the best young players in Serie A in the 2022-2023 season.

Luka Romero (Lazio)

The Mexican-born winger scored the winning goal against Monza in November, just prior to the start of the World Cup. It’s quite unfortunate that he lost that momentum.

The 18-year-old is an elusive dribbler who has the kind of control that draws comparisons to a number of modern-day greats. Much is to be expected from the youngster.

After being a prodigy as a Mallorca youngster, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has had him on his radar for his World Cup-winning squad.

Matias Soule (Juventus)

Matias Soule is another Argentine forward with plenty of potential. He is signed to Juventus where he has already made 10 appearances for the senior side.

The 19-year-old is not The Next Lionel Messi. In fact, many have drawn comparisons with Angel Di Maria’s ability as an inside forward.

This season, with Juventus allowing players like Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala to leave, Soule has been given more opportunities. He has yet to score, but the potential is clearly there.

Armand Lauriente (Sassuolo)

Lauriente, formerly playing for FC Lorient, has been one of Serie A’s revelations this season and Sassuolo’s star. It couldn’t have come at a better time with Domenico Berardi struggling for find his regular form due to injury.

The Frenchman, aged 24, has netted three times for Sassuolo and starred in almost every single game. Lauriente is a tireless worker to give opportunities to his teammates. Pundits are already calling the player one of Europe’s most dynamic wide creators and dribblers.
