My GW9 Fantasy Squad Reveal
What am I focusing on for my selection? Value! I am looking for players who are affordable, in good form, and have upcoming fixtures that suit their abilities.
I am playing a 5-4-1 formation this time, trying to leverage that famous Serie A defender skill.
Goalkeeper
Christos Mandas (Lazio) – 2* and Free w/ Lease in FootballCoin
The Greek goalie’s growing reputation this season is certainly part of a feel-good story. Lazio is back! And it wouldn’t be the case without Mandas’ performances. He’s been fantastic in October. I expect more of the same against Sassuolo.
Defenders
Mariano Troilo (Parma) – 2* and Free w/ Lease in FootballCoin
Yes, I know that Parma is in 19th place. I also know that the team has lost its last three Serie A games. That aside, Mariano Troilo’s performances make me think that he’s a rare find for fantasy football. Besides, the match against Udinese is one in which he can shine.
Romano Floriani Mussolini (Lazio) – 2* and Free w/ Lease in FootballCoin
What’s in a name, anyway? Romano Mussolini’s arrival at Lazio was treated as a potential internet meme. Instead, he’s proving to be one of the league’s best right-backs. He’s getting better game by game. At his current price tag, I see little reason not to pick him.
Radu Dragusin (Fiorentina) – 3* in FootballCoin
Fiorentina is embarrassingly battling relegation. Still, Dragusin is one of the few players keeping hopes of better things alive. Last week’s performance against Internazionale makes me think he can carry this form into Gameweek 9.
Emanuele Valeri (Parma) – 2* and Free w/ Lease in FootballCoin
Like Troilo, Emanuele Valeri must be wondering if he’s just not a little too good for this Parma side. While the team has struggled, Valeri’s stats have been beefed up by his crossing and status as set-piece taker. Regardless of the score, he can fetch a lot of points.
Jacobo Ramon (Como) – 3* in FootballCoin
Seeing Jacobo Ramon charge through the Manchester United defence to score in the UCL must’ve made many new Como fans roar with delight. Does this mean that Ramon is one of the best fantalcalcio defenders that you can get? Yes, I think that it does!
Midfielders
Stanislav Lobotka (Napoli) – 4* in FootballCoin
Just when you almost lose hope with Napoli, the team does something to surprise you. Last week’s Champions League victory has improved morale for the Partenopei. Will it also improve their performances?
Playing Venezia, a team haemorrhaging goals, could certainly be a blessing. And Lobotka has certainly been Napoli’s best midfielder this season.
Lucas da Cunha (Como) – 3* in FootballCoin
It’s a fantastic time for Como. Before fatigue has a chance to set in, the team can put in another strong performance against Torino; Lucas da Cunha’s vision, speed, and ambition make him, for me, one of the essential players to get in fantasy football.
Kevin de Bruyne (Napoli) – 4* in FootballCoin
Is De Bruyne still any good? Yes, but only when the game favours his extraordinary passing skills and when he’s fit. These conditions are likely to occur when Napoli travel to Venezia. In GW9, it’s OK to give De Bruyne the benefit of the doubt.
Kenneth Taylor (Lazio) – 2* and Free w/ Lease in FootballCoin
What a strange career Kenneth Taylor has had. The Dutchman was touted for a big EPL club. In the end, he’s made a name for himself, outside of Ajax Amsterdam, playing for in-form Lazio. I admire his discipline most, and I think that’s what will help Taylor perform well against Sassuolo.
Forwards
Nikola Krstovic (Atalanta) – 2* and Free w/ Lease in FootballCoin
Both Atalanta and Serie A, in general, continuously invent new goalscoring stars. There are murmurs of excitement about Nikola Krstovic from the footballing world, and for good reason. He’s already scored 6 goals in Serie A despite starting only 4 games.
What can he do against a Fiorentina side that has looked very shaky in defence? I think that you should pick him for your team and find out!
3 Must-Have “Sleeper Picks” for GW9
Filip Stankovic (Venezia – Goalkeeper) – Yes, I know how it sounds! While Venezia is the poorest team defensively in Serie A, Stankovic isn’t the worst keeper. In fact, all the work that he’s had to do has transformed into fantasy football points. I hope that you get my drift!
Luis Milla (Como – Midfielder) – Sure, other Como defenders get more press. However, Milla’s always managed to earn plenty of points when allowed to star for Cesc Fabregas‘ side.
Daniel Maldini (Cagliari – Attacker) – You already know why I’ve highlighted him. The young Maldini has had a good season. He’s, essentially, proven his doubters wrong. Maldini has also become Cagliari’s brightest hope. You ought to have him on your radar!
