The 2024/25 Champions League has been a season of firsts. The format was altered, the biggest clubs fell by the wayside long before the final, and we got a brand-new winner. Nearly all of these alterations were well-received by audiences and made for great Champions League fantasy football.

How did your team score this season? Where are you placed on the overall FootballCoin rankings?

Here’s a look at the top cards this campaign. This is the Team of the Season for UCL fantasy football.

The 2024/2025 Champions League Team of the Season

Goalkeeper

Yann Sommer (Inter Milano)

Yes, it ended in tears in the final. But let’s look at the sensational piece of business that Inter did one more time when they brought in Sommer. They sold goalie Andre Onana to Manchester United for a fortune and got Sommer from the Bundesliga on a pittance. The Swiss keeper has had a great campaign regardless of the final’s result.

Defenders

Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munchen) fantasy football

Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munchen)

Joshua Kimmich remains one of the best all-around players in Europe. Even in an unremarkable campaign, Kimmich seems to do more and do it better than his counterparts. While Bayern didn’t reach the goal of playing the final, clearly, it’s Kimmich who ties all of Vincent Kompany’s tactical plans together.

Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain)

Achraf Hakimi is rarely absent from the FootballCoin Team of the Season. However, this season of the Champions League was special even by his standards. Hakimi scored in the final and guided the club to an impressive quadruple win. Have there been better wing-backs across recent years?

Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain)

Hard work and perseverance have paid off for Nuno Mendes. While the Portuguese defender has struggled with playing time at Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Enrique has fancied using him in Champions League games. The manager’s confidence has inspired Mendes and has given him his best to the team.

Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain)

PSG got rid of all its stars to win the Champions League, except for Marquinhos. One of the great team leaders of this football generation, this ball-playing midfielder was the team’s undisputed leader as the club secured its first-ever UCL trophy.

Midfielders

Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain)

The stats speak for themselves. Vitinha is the underrated midfielder who passes the ball better than nearly anyone and runs more than most. The 25-year-old’s campaign was simply a masterclass worth studying.

Willian Pacho (Paris Saint-Germain)

Willian Pacho becomes the first Ecuadorian to win the Champions League. And the defensive midfielder will have to feel a great sense of personal debt to Luis Enrique, who insisted on transferring the player from Eintracht Frankfurt in the Summer. Pacho’s been sensational and easily makes the UCL Team of the Season.

Michael Olise (Bayern Munchen)

Rarely are Bayern Munchen transfers challenged by fans or the press. Michael Olise’s transfer tag, however, made both these categories feel anxious.

They needn’t have worried. The former EPL player brought a new steadiness to Bayern’s game. Good on the ball, clever tactically and able to contribute goals, Olise now looks like one of Bayern’s best transfers in years.

João Neves (Paris Saint-Germain)

Like his colleagues, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz, João Neves quietly and confidently turned PSG’s midfield line both an irresistible passing machine and an unbeatable fortress. Just look at those stats! Can you believe he’s just 20 years old?

Forwards

Raphinha (FC Barcelona)

It was a great season for Raphinha and one of revenge for the Brazilian. Many doubted his place on Hansi Flick’s side, let alone his ability to provide much-needed goals for the Catalan club. Raphinha netted 13 goals in the Champions League alone, greatly contributing to both the strong results and the entertainment that Barca provided this season.

Ousmane Dembele (Paris Saint-Germain)

Ousmane Dembele is another player whose career has changed for the better under Luis Enrique. The former Barcelona player has turned into a hard-working, pressing false nine capable of using his skill and imagination to destabilise opponents. Dembele scored 8 goals and assisted with another 6. At this moment, there are few better players in the world!
