Marco Verratti’s agent hinted towards the fact that the player may want to join a bigger club in the near future. Donato Di Campli feels that Verratti will not be able to win European honours as long as he stays at the Paris side.
Marco Verratti’s form this season has earned him numerous accolades. He was one of PSG’s best players in their sensational 4-0 victory over Barcelona. PSG were knocked out after a 6-1 losss in the second leg. Regardless, the player is still on the radar of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
PSG has been consistent in winning the French Ligue 1 and qualifying to the later stages of the Champions League. However, Verratti’s manager thinks the player can achieve even more if he is to make a move away from Paris. Both player and agent had confirmed, in the past, allegiance of the midfielder to PSG. Plans seem to have changed and it’s likely they will now try to force a transfer.
Di Campli told Gazzetta dello Sport “The situation is extremely complicated, he’s tied to a very important contract until 2021. He wants to win and, with PSG as they are now, he cannot win.”
“The 4-0 [win over Barca] was damaging because it concealed the real problems at PSG.He’s been in Paris for five years and now has to make a decision: to earn a lot without winning or earn and become a champion? It’s not a question of money: anyone who buys Verratti would pay a lot. Because there is at least one thing for sure: if he leaves PSG, it will be for a top European club.”
Among the teams rumored to be interested in signing the player is in fact Barcelona. Barca got a chance to witness Verratti’s talents first hand in their Champions League clash. Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi even made a plea to the Camp Nou board to make a move and try to bring the player to Spain.
“Verratti would be the ideal signing for Barcelona in my opinion,” Xavi said. “I think Verratti is a bit like me. He always goes in search of the ball quite deep on the pitch and then takes it forward and dictates play.”
“Verratti is small just like me and he never loses the ball. His technique is incredible. He is a player I would love to see at Barcelona.”
If Verratti is to depart PSG in the future, French side will move quickly to replace him. The Ligue 1 champions (four times running) spare little expenses in bringing in some of the world’s best and most well-known players. A transfer strategy that brought in big name players from Europe’s best leagues has turned PSG’s fortunes around. The club’s only objective they have yet to meet is winning the Champions League. With the evolution of the club in such a small space of time, many feel they could do just that.
