Club World Cup fantasy football did its very best to rival the very biggest football tournaments and sporting events in the world. It was long, it contained controversies and much of the presentation was over-the-top. And while it has many detractors, the CWC, for the most part, lived up to its own hype.
You created your fantasy football teams daily! You’ve likely won a few contests along the way. But who ended up being the best picks? These are the tournament’s best players, the team of the tournament.
CWC Fantasy Football Team of the Tournament
Goalkeeper
Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) – There were some great moments courtesy of Thibaut Courtois that risk being lost in the shuffle of Real’s eventual CWC knockout. The Belgium keeper has proved, once more, just why behind all the arrogance is confidence rooted in colossla talent. Culd you have picked a better goalie for your fantays football team? Unlikely!
Defenders
Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain) – The Moroccan is the best wing-back in the world. The result of the final of the CWC will not change it. Hakimi was often PSG’s best player throughout this season and the American-hosted tournament was no exception. Hakimi remains a sensational fantasy football pick whenever you can make it.
Francisco Garcia (Real Madrid) – On the one hand, this Real Madrid side fell short of its objective. On the other hand, it’s players like Fran Garcia and the way that Xavi Alonso utilises their talents that prove just how far this team can go once players fully understand their new roles.
Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain) – With the exception of the final, Nuno Mendes was exceptional. But this was not a surprise to anyone who has followed this PSG side throughout a season which saw the Parisians win Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Mendes was a great fantasy football choice for most of the CWC.
Marc Cucurella (Chelsea) – Cucurella is a winner, and there’s now no doubt about that. Few players have made greater use of their opportunities as the full-back has in recent years, and few have won more trophies. Whether he’s providing assists for his teammates or forcing red cards against his opponents, Cucurella is on
Midfielders
Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – There’s just something a little bit magical about this former Manchester City stalwart. Palmer clinched the final for Chelsea, sure. But there were often traces of pure brilliance throughout the tournament for a generational talent. Did your fantasy football team take advantage?
Gonzalo Garcia (Real Madrid) – Great tournaments often include brand new stars that seize the opportunity and launch themselves onto the world’s stage. That’s precisely what happened to Gonzalo Garcia, a player that new manager, Xavi Alonso, would have to work hard right now to keep out of the team.
Jhon Aris (Fluminense) – I was most impressed at the 2025 CWC by the South American teams. Fluminense made it all the way to the semi-finals. And much of that success is due to Jhon Aris, a midfielder who makes all complicated things involving his positioning look easy.
Michael Olise (Bayern Munich) – Bayern usually makes sensible choices. And that’s been the case in bringing in Olise to Germany. The Munchen side crashed out unceremoniously of the CWC, but Olise was, once again, one of the team’s top performers.
Attackers
Pedro Neto (Chelsea) – You can’t blame Chelsea fans for having a little viewer fatigue. Not only have their team played many matches this season, but squad players seem to change often. Pedro Neto used the opportunity given. He was one of the team’s best CWC players, one of the best fantasy football picks and has staked his place for the starting line-up.
Sehrou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund) – Sehrou Guirassy confirmed, once more, that Borussia Dortmund’s scouting department is one of the best in the football industry. While Dortmund’s results were better than anticipated, Guirassy was the biggest surprise of this German side.
