A fresh Bundesliga season has come and then gone leaving goals, cards, derbies, and plenty of drama in its wake. Now that the season is over it is only fitting we take a look at the league’s top player. Here is the Bundesliga fantasy football Team of the year in 2018/19 according to FootballCoin statistics.

Yann Sommer (Borussia M.Gladbach)- Sommer edges out Kevin Trapp and Michael Esser for the #1 spot. An acrobatic keeper, capable of stopping tough saves from short range, the Swiss enjoyed arguably the best season of his career, helping Borussia M.Gladbach to a fifth-place finish. See you in the Europa League!

Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) – World Cup notwithstanding, Kimmich has had a great 12 month period. The German is finally confirming his status as one of the best wing-backs in football. If money was no issue, the likes of FC Barcelona would be desperate to sign him.

Marcel Halstenberg (RB Leipzig) – The most hated team in Germany is no longer surprising audiences with their results. Rather, they’re a main stay among the league’s best. The 27-year-old Hlastenberg was a consistently great performer, proving capable of dealing with numerous roles on the left flank.

Theodor Gebre Selassie (Werder Bremen) – Concentration and a no-frills approach to the game have been Selassie’s go-to method this year. It was effective as he earns a spot in the Bundesliga Team of the Year.

David Alaba (Bayern Munich) – Much like Bayern, the Austrian had a mixed bag of a season. It started out poorly with the Bavarians dropping out of the Champions League and Alaba failing to impress. But, Bayern pulled a late-season comeback and the left-back was an important element of their success.

Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen) – He has surprised throughout the season, showing maturity well beyond his 19 years of age. Havertz looks to have a great career ahead of him. Will his next stop be the champions, Bayern?

Thorgan Hazard (Borussia M.Gladbach) – There’s more than one Hazard now being frantically talked about in the sports press. Thorgan Hazard enjoyed a great season in Germany, scoring 10 and assisting 10. He was often the Man of the Match and is most likely heading to Borussia Dortmund for next season. Is a call for Chelsea due once their transfer embargo runs out?

Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen) – He was one of the few players to impress in a World Cup where Germany suffered an embarrassing exit. Brandt has world-class talent written all over, but if Liverpool and Tottenham wish to sign him they will need to be persuasive. The youngster seems keen on remaining loyal to Bayer.

Max Kruse (Werder Bremen) – He scored 11 and assisted in 9 goals. You won’t find him defending, but scoring seems to come easy for Kruse. Spot well deserved on Team of the Year.

Robert Lewandowski - Bayern MunchenRobert Lewandowski (Bayern) – He’s the best striker in the Bundesliga in recent memory. The season started out miserably as Bayern struggled and Lewandowski looked anxious to leave. But, he finished scoring 22 goals, delivered the Bundesliga trophy and talks of leaving Bavaria have died down. Real’s loss is Bayern’s gain.

Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) – Luck favours the bold! Faced with the prospect of watching from the bench while in the EPL, Sancho took fate into his own hands. He demanded a transfer to the Bundesliga, something barely heard of for English players. Here, he impressed for Dortmund, just barely missing out on the title. At 19 years old, every agent in the world would like to discuss a deal. Good on you Jadon!

Manager: Niko Kovac (Bayern) – Stakes were high and voices of criticism were many. But, in the face of imminent disaster, Kovac managed to turn things around for Bayern. The club has won another title and Kovac’s job at the top is safe.
