My GW8 Fantasy Squad Reveal
Goalkeeper
James Trafford (Leeds) – 3* in FootballCoin – No longer in anyone’s shadow, James Trafford is currently in charge of the third-best defence in the EPL. Playing in Sunderland right now could help to improve upon that existing record.
Defenders
Jannick Shuster (Brentford) – 1* and Free in FootballCoin – Remember Brentford’s brilliant scouting system. It’s worked again. Jannick Shuster is adjusting well to life in the Premier League. Against the ultra-defensive, 5-4-1-playing Hull, he will do well.
Luka Vuskovic (Brighton) – 2* and Free w/lease in FootballCoin – Vuskovic was simply superb against Crystal Palace. It wasn’t a fluke. He’s settled into the Premier League nicely. With this kind of form, he can have a strong EPL career for years.
Calvin Bassey Ughelumba (Fulham) – 2* and Free w/lease in FootballCoin – Fulham’s form is turning a corner. As far as I can tell, Bassey is becoming an indispensable part of the defensive setup.
Antonio Silva (Bournemouth) – 2* and Free w/lease in FootballCoin – Let’s be honest! At this stage of the season, defenders, if they’re any good, are relishing the opportunity to come up against Manchester United’s attackers. In-form Silva surely will.
Oliver Bascagli (Brighton) – 2* and Free w/lease in FootballCoin – He’s a mature left-back with a great eye for a long pass. His qualities bring a different edge to Brighton’s attacks. These can really be exploited against a Liverpool side that has struggled on the flanks recently.
Midfielders
Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – 4* and Free w/lease in FootballCoin – Palmer is worth making the investment this week. Chelsea is playing Tottenham. Spurs are struggling against fast, technical players who can move between the lines. Palmer’s fitness is improving, too.
Mamadou Sangare (Brentford) – 2* and Free w/lease in FootballCoin – Sangare is a player who reads the game superbly. Besides that, he can dribble and keep cool under pressure. He’s affordable and should play well in GW8.
Oscar Bobb (Fulham) – 2* and Free w/lease in FootballCoin – Bobb’s skill has always been admired. At Fulham this season, it finally seems like this skill is being properly utilised. Against Coventry, the Norwegian looks poised to put in a great display.
Jordan Henderson (Chelsea) – 5* and Free w/lease in FootballCoin – “But he’s 100 years old!” Do you want to complain or win? Henderson is making himself the linchpin for this Chelsea side helmed by Xabi Alonso. He averages 69 passes per game. There’ll be plenty more against Tottenham.
Forwards
Dan Ndoye (Nottingham Forest) – 3* and Free w/lease in FootballCoin – I see Ndoye’s form only improving from this point on. I see him getting some goal-scoring opportunities away at Ipswich, the team with the second-worst defence in the EPL. And while he might not be the first striker you think of for GW8, I’m confident in him.
3 Must-Have “Sleeper Picks” for GW8
Merlin Rohl (Defender) – He’s a 24-year-old who can play both as a defender and a midfielder. He’s delivered strong performances for the Toffees whenever he’s played. And it’s likely that Everton will want to start him in the difficult match against Arsenal now that fixtures and injuries are starting to pile up.
Levi Colwill (Defender) – He’s the sort of defender that Xabi Alonso really likes. Colwill is always involved in the build-up phase, and he can easily shift position with teammates. I think that he’s a player worth considering.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Striker) – When he ends his career (hopefully, many years from now), Calvert-Lewin, I predict, will be remembered as one of the best strikers of this Premier League era. He’s in form after his goal against Manchester United in GW7. And Calvert-Lewin could shine with Sunderland playing away to Sunderland.
