champions league fantasy football wo to pick for round 5

By Eduard Bănulescu

Champions League fantasy football is, let’s be honest, the collection of the biggest stars playing in Europe, involved in games being played in the same 24-hour window. Of course, it’s exciting!

But it can also be a little confusing. You’ll need a dozen television sets just to figure out what’s really going on. Who do you choose when there’s so much to choose from? Who are the stars that are getting by, mostly, on their reputation rather than their performances?

In trying to aid you in your quest, here are, in my opinion, the fantasy football cards that you need ahead of Round 5 of the Champions League and the ones that you should avoid.

Are These the Players You Need for Champions League Fantasy Football for Round 5?

Neutral fans looking for a football spectacle will likely be tuning in to watch Chelsea take on FC Barcelona. There’s talk of the fact that both teams have excellent attackers and really quite terrible defenders. The gossip, for the most part, is true if you ask me.

Judging by recent fixtures, this could be a goal fest. Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Alejandro Garnacho and Liam Delap are all good choices if you can afford those cards.

Napoli’s form has yo-yoed in recent weeks. But Antonio Conte should earn a clean, unthrilling win over Qarabag. David Neres is in good form. Also, the Partenopei’s defensive line looks good with the likes of Amir Rrahmani, Giovanni DiLorenzo, and Alessandro Buongiorno all making sound choices for your fantasy football team.

Ajax versus Benfica has something tragic about it all. But Jose Mourinho may finally get some points in the competition he was once an expert in. I like Nicola Otamendi, Vangelis Pavlidis, and Mike Godts for this one.

On the other hand, Marseille taking on Newcastle looks juicy! OM have talent and ambition on its side. Still, the Magpies are coming straight after a victory against Manchester City. Players may be rested for this one, but Nick Woltemade, Sandro Tonali, goalie Nick Pope are good picks. From the French side, I recommend taking a look at CJ Egan-Riley, who is a free pick in FootballCoin, as well as the always reliable Pierre Hojbjerg.

Other UCL Fantasy Football Tips & Picks

Bodo/Glimt is fishing for a historic result against Juventus. Luciano Spaletti is still rebuilding this Italian side. Teun Koopmeiners and Manuel Locatelli are fine players, but nobody jumps out from this line-up, if I am honest.

Manchester City lost at the weekend, but should have a much easier job against Bayer Leverkusen. It’s hard to ignore Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku for this one. The rest of Guardiola’s starting line-up is, as always, up for debate until the first whistle.

Galatasaray and Union SG both have numerous injuries with which to contend. This makes it hard to recommend any players with great confidence.

I think that Villareal has enough to create an away game offset against perpetually overhyped Dortmund. Gerard Moreno and Thomas Partey are the ones to do it too.

Slavia Prague has enough to hold Athletic Bilbao to a positive result here. Still, Yuri Berichiche is in fine form. I also think that Mikel Jauregizar, who is free in FootballCoin, is a good pick.

Pafos playing AS Monaco is a good opportunity to play your David Luiz card that you may have been holding onto for a while.

Real Madrid needs to do much more than it has recently to be listened to as one of the favourites to win the UCL. However, victory away to Olympiacos should be within the Madridistas’ reach. Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, and Arda Guller will all look to score. But they could end up stepping on each other’s toes to do it.

I also like Dean Hujsen and Alvaro Carreras as affordable picks for this one.

Finally, I am expecting to see a statement victory for Arsenal against the critics’ favourite, Bayern Munich. Mikel Arteta will surely rotate the squad, but Leandro Trossard, Declan Rice and Eberechi Eze are must-haves for your fantasy football team.

These Are the UCL Players to Avoid in Round 5

Marcus Rashford is unlikely to triumphantly return to England against Chelsea. He and Raphinha might be on the bench due to injuries. And, I’d have my doubts about picking goalies Robert Sanchez and Wojciech Szczesny for this round.

Juve players have been disappointing lately. Can’t see a reason to make space for players like Jonathan David quite yet.

Victor Osimhen would’ve done brilliantly, most likely, against Union Saint-Gilloise, but the Galatasaray player may be injured.

Other notable injury absences? Dominic Solanke, Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal, Achraf Hakimi, Rodri, Jeremie Frimpong, Gleison Bremer, Denzel Dumfries, Gavi and Pedri should also be out.

Suspensions? Kenneth Taylor is out. So are Bayern’s Luis Diaz, Benfica’s Orkun Kokcu, Bodo’s Jostein Gundersen, Leverkusens’ Robert Andrich (probably for the best!), OM’s Emerson, PSG’s Ilya Zabarnyi, Spurs’s Brennan Johnson.
