Manchester City has dominated this season of the English Premier League. It’s a season that has seen plenty of top-class teams lining up for the competition. Despite the heavily disputed contest, Pep Guardiola’s side has escaped from the pack and are favorites to win the competition. The likes of Manchester United and Tottenham will naturally have a different idea about matters.
City has played so well, in fact, that some wonder if the Manchester side might not be able to finish the season unbeaten. It’s a rare feat. Arsenal achieved this in a team that featured the likes of Bergkamp, Henry and Vieira. It earned the players the career-defining moniker of “The Invincibles”.
Pep Guardiola has denied he even considers this to be an achievable feat. After all, football has changed a great deal, he says. The Premier League, even more so. The contest is certainly much more disputed than it was when Arsenal dominated the league. Guardiola believes that the EPL offers the chance of any team defeating any other on the right day.
Former Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard was suitably impressed with City’s progress this season. However, he believes the team still has a way to go to fully prove themselves. After all, Guardiola will be looking towards the kind of glory that will get him into the history books. Lampard argues that City still has work to do before they can be regarded in the same way that Mourinho’s Chelsea or Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United are now seen by football fans across the world.
Guardiola’s team took some time to get into proper gear. After all, last season tended to be a disappointment at times. City could go on to win the league, but what they will do next, will define how the team will be regarded over time.
