Beşiktaş were quick to announce they have agreed to terms with Benfica for the loan of Brazilian Anderson Talisca for another season.
The announcement was made by representatives of the Turkish side, with the purpose of discouraging Manchester United from further pursuing a transfer at this stage. If United is still interested, they may be able to negotiate a deal with Benfica in a year from now.
Talisca was loaned out last season to Beşiktaş and enjoyed a very good campaign. The attacking midfielder scored 17 times in 22 appearances for the Turkish team. A technical midfielder with a good eye for goals, Talisca was said to be in negotiations to join United or return to Portugal’s Benfica. The player himself revealed that he had been in contact with the English side and that he was excited by the prospect of a transfer.
Beşiktaş looks to have won this battle and secured the player’s services for one more season. Umut Guner ( president of Beşiktaş’ transfer committee) confirmed that the 23 year-old will continue with the work started last season.
“There is no deal with Manchester United or anyone else in place,” Guner tells Hurriyet Daily. “We agreed to a two-year deal with Benfica. The loan did have a clause that the option [for a second year] had to be activated, which we did.”
“Talisca will stay at Beşiktaş on loan for another season. Reports claiming that he can be signed for his €25m release clause are false, he has a deal with us. If a club wants to sign him now they will have to wait another 12 months.”
Beşiktaş have won the Turkish championship twice in a row and Talisca proved to be one of the side’s most important players. He is now set to showcase his skill on the Champions League stage in the new season. Beşiktaş will also hope to improve on their performance of last year and see off the challenge of rivals Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray for the Süper Lig crown.
