There’s been talk of a “hoodoo” in British clubs in the European competitions of late. Chelsea is, in fact, the last team to have won the trophy before the Germans and Spanish sides starting dominating the tournament in following years.
Chelsea’s captain for this season, Gary Cahill, believes the team has what it takes to perform well against Europe’s best clubs and recalls that the London side and Manchester United have been successful in the tournament in the past.
Cahill also believes that, perhaps, the fact that other leagues benefit from a break in the winter time, may help them to be successful in the Champions League. Regardless, the player says that the quality of the squad is bound to see the team through.
