Teams first need to make sure that they keep a clean sheet if they are to achieve greatness in any competition in which they may be involved. These 5 goalkeepers from the MLS are no doubt taking this advice to heart. Here are 5 goalies that your fantasy soccer team needs right away.

1. Jeff Attinella (Portland Timbers)

1. Jeff Attinella (Portland Timbers)

There’s something not quite working in the Portland Timbers’ setup. However, that is certainly not the fault of Jeff Attinella. In fact, despite their dreadful xG rate this season, the team sits mid-table after 13 matches. Much of this is due to the safe hands of their goalkeeper. Starting Attinella looks to have inspired Portland towards an unexpected rejuvenation. With a 75% save ratio, it is safe to say that the American deserves his place on the list

2. Steven Cleveland (Seattle Sounders FC)

The Seattle Sounders are sitting pretty, top of the Western Conference in the MLS. They’ve also managed to retain a drum-tight defense all season. All of this is due to the talent of Steven Cleveland, who averages an 80% save ratio and only 7 goals against.

3. Eloy Room (Columbus Crew)

Columbus Crew is another team that hasn’t quite found its way during the new season. They’re also a team whose record is greatly increased by the performances of their goalie. Eloy Room leads the second-best defense in 2021’s MLS. He’s been scored against 10 times and has registered a 75,6% save ratio.

4. Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union)

This year, Philadelphia looks like a side that means business as they trail New England for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Andre Blake has been among their star players. The Jamaican keeper has saved 78% of shots and has been score against only 11 times. He also has one of the lowest expected goals ratios of keeper in the MLS, making him worthy indeed of a shoutout on this list.

5. Jonathan Bond (LA Galaxy)

Jonathan Bond may seem an eccentric pick for our list. After all, the mighty LA Galaxy has struggled this season. Also, Bond has been scored against 22 times. However, there are reasons to maintain optimism about the English shot-stopper. He has a save ratio of 75% and a Goals against per 90 minutes ratio of 1.57. Furthermore, he has been shown to be able to stop nearly impossible shots and he can distribute the ball excellently with his feet. Things haven’t worked out quite as planned for the keeper yet, but we believe Bond is worthy of a mention.
