Serie A has officially moved past the slump it was in a few years ago, at least as far as neutral fans are concerned. Goals are being scored a-plenty, future stars are emerging out of nowhere and Scudetto winners are created where you expect least?
How did your fantacalcio Serie A campaign go? How many of the players on this list featured? This is the Serie A Team of the Season for the 2024/2025 campaign.
The 2024/2025 Serie A Team of the Season
Goalkeeper
Vanja Milinkovic-Savic (FC Torino)
It’s no surprise that clubs like Manchester United are finally taking notice of the ever-fiery Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. He’s a leader and a goalkeeper who doesn’t often make mistakes. If you’re a fantasy football fan, you’ll want to keep track of him.
Defenders
Amir Rrahmani (Napoli)
Napoli won the league for the fourth time and arguably in the most surprising fashion that they’ve managed this feat. The secret? Defensive stability was created through near fanatical devotion from players like Amir Rrahmani. Unbeatable in the air and available for all 38 matches in the league, Rrahmani had another great campaign.
Giovanni di Lorenzo (SSC Napoli)
Who expected Di Lorenzo’s season to end by clinching silverware? Who ever dared to think he could’ve made it into the Team of the Season? Antonio Conte all but revived the career of the Napoli captain and turned him, once more, into one of the finest defenders in Serie A.
Aaron Martin (Genoa)
Genoa was a hard-fighting team that knew how to use clever tactics and grit to their advantage. Nobody in the team represented these values better than Aaron Martin, the Spanish full-back who managed 8 assists throughout the season.
Angelino (AS Roma)
Angelino is yet another player who has successfully restarted his footballing career since arriving in Italy. Angelino was the star player of an A.S. Roma side that, under manager Claudio Ranieri, turned failure into unfathomable success. The Spaniard’s consistency was an important factor in this.
Midfielders
Tijani Reijnders (AC Milan)
At least something good came of the season for the once mighty AC Milan. The club certainly has an identity issue. But, also without doubt is the fact that midfielder Tijani Reijnders is the real deal and the player around whom a new winning team can be built.
Marten de Roon (Atalanta)
Marten de Roon was simply sensational this season. And it’s because of his creativity and commitment that seeing Atalanta’s title challenge slip mid-way through the season was hard to witness. The veteran Dutch player was equally great as a playmaker or a ball-playing defender.
Manuel Locatelli (Juventus)
Did Juventus make any progress this season? Slight and occasional. But Manuel Locatelli finally returned to form this campaign. He was consistent, determined, and was one of the league’s best passers.
Matteo Guendouzi (Lazio)
Matteo Guendouzi had some debts to pay as the season started. And while there were some embarrassing performances along the way, there were also memorable highlights. It’s the latter that gives Guendouzi just enough for him to make the Team of the Season.
Forwards
Ademola Lookman (Atalanta)
Last season ended with Ademola Lookman, practically, gifting the Europa League trophy to Atalanta. Fortunately for him, the forward managed to retain the same appetite for goalscoring in the 2024/2025 campaign of Serie A.
The Nigerian was the team’s star player. Lookman scored 15 goals. And while teammate Mateo Retegui ended with the Capocannoniere trophy, for his 25 goals, clearly, Lookman is in a great time in his career.
Hans Nicolussi Caviglia (Venezia)
It’s always good to see a surprise in the Team of the Season. It’s not Retegui, Kean or Orsolini rounding up the line of attack. It’s a 24-year-old Nicolussi Caviglia. Fantacalcio is a funny old thing. While Caviglia has only scored four goals this season, it’s his all-around game and his consistent stats that secure his place among the league’s elite.
